Anxiety is at the top of the list when it comes to mental disorders, but not everyone feels the relief antidepressants can have. In America alone, 40-60% of people can’t feel the difference. Here are the tips for calming your anxious mind

1. Drink Less Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant (coffee/alcohol). Often times I witness caffeine harming people more than helping. Caffeine can be great in small, limited doses, but a lot of people including myself can get more anxious after drinking coffee. This can be felt with an increased heart rate, jitters, and not being able to sit still.

2. Yoga/Deep Breathing

Moving our body and breathing helps bring our body back into harmony, which is what yoga is known to help with. Breath work might sound like a simple action, but it can make a big difference for your body! It helps those suffering from anxiety by calming our Nervous System (fight or flight mechanism). When our Nervous System is calmed, it lowers our blood pressure, allowing us to naturally release symptoms of anxiety.

3. Give yourself a hug

I’m very hard on myself, but every time I hug myself, I feel my younger childhood self say “thank you.” Just as hugging someone brings a feeling of love and comfort, the same goes for yourself! It may sound or even look awkward but hugging yourself has many benefits. You may even feel instant calmness come over you.
