As pandemic life recedes in the U.S., many people have learned how to use their down time during the pandemic to develop new skills or passions, and now they want to find roles that allow them to incorporate their new found passion into their day to day lives. The pandemic increased a surge of people to leave their jobs in search of more money, more flexibility, and more happiness. Many are rethinking what work means to them, how they are valued in their work environment, and how they spend their delicate time. It’s leading to a dramatic increase in resignations, or should we call it “The Great Resignation of 2021”.

One of those to join the great resignation is our founder, Dr. Najifa Choudhury. She recently took a leap of faith and stepped down from a full-time pharmacist job at a geriatric clinic to run Dr. Peace Lily full time. As a healthcare provider, her life goal is to help as many people as possible and to provide holistic care. During the pandemic, she realized that she was helping more people through Dr. Peace Lily than her corporate pharmacist job. She was being asked to speak at conferences around the country, be interviewed on various CBD related topics to help educate others, and attend pop-up shops in the community. Her passion with Dr. Peace Lily kept growing stronger and she knew that it would come a time that she no longer could continue to work both jobs. Dr. Choudhury realized that life is too short to not go after your dream and how desperately the CBD industry needed health care professionals like herself to advocate for holistic care, increased research in the cannabis space, and to set the bar when it comes to organic products.

From the outside looking in, one can’t truly see the work and passion that goes into running an online business. Examples of things one has to managed includes:

website management

  • Blogging
  • Email campaigns
  • Social media
  • Creating content
  • Seeking out & coordinating pop-up events
  • Attending pop-ups
  • Shipping out orders
  • Public relations outreach
  • Finances
  • Constant learning and self-growth
  • Photoshoots
  • Working on new product releases
  • Hiring & building a team
  • Networking
  • Managing retail distributors

Dr. Choudhury also knew there was no way Dr.Peace Lily would be able to grow if she kept spreading herself thin and not dedicating all of her energy into her company. Now that she has left her 6 figure pharmacist job to work on growing her business, she can take control of her life and finally bet on herself.

What’s Next?

With so many people going through a crisis of change, there are numerous questions in the air about job life. Just like our founder, people are realizing more and more what is more important to them, living their dream or sacrificing that dream for someone else to live theirs. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 4 million people quit their jobs in April alone. All these have prompted workers to re-evaluate, prioritize and reflect on their work.. With this mindset circling around people’s heads and the increase of feeling more free, we can expect to see many more employees resign from their jobs. A survey in the United States found that 26% of workers plan to leave their current jobs in the coming months.

Do you believe even more workers will eventually leave their job for more freedom?
